What if we valued teacher teams as much as sports and music teams? How often does your school football team practice? How often does your band or orchestra rehearse? How often do your teams of teachers rehearse and practice together? Do you even think of your teachers as collectives of teams? School transformation will happen when we commit to rehearsal and practice.

  2. Love this, Bo. The analogy of our education teams to our sports teams really causes us to question and consider what we value, or say we value. The comparison gives us a way to deeply analyze our actions towards investing in the time, effort, organization, support, practice, cheering, and celebration in what we say we value. I would doubt many could say we treat the teams the same.

    And, love that I can carry this poignant thought with me all day. Hope all is well.

    • Thanks, Jamie. I think this is the power of associational thinking, as discussed in Innovator’s DNA. When we think of one thing in terms of another, seemingly unrelated thing, then we begin to explore deeper meaning and understanding. I agree with you that the comparison really causes important questioning and ideating about what we value highly – in deed, and not in word only.
